Kira Road Police Station is investigating a suspected poisoning incident at Mezo Noir nightclub in Kololo, Kampala, after Martha Ahumuza mysteriously collapsed and later died on Wednesday night.
SSP Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the investigation, stating that the victim met her friend, Edward Mugabo (alias Eddie), a cashier at the bar, around 2 a.m.
They drank together until 3:30 a.m., before moving to the manager’s office, which lacks CCTV coverage.
Martha collapsed inside the office, leading Mugabo to contact his brother, Joseph Kalenzi. The pair rushed her to Kampala Hospital, where she was placed on life support but passed away shortly after.
Mugabo and Kalenzi have been arrested to assist with the investigation and are currently being held at Kira Road Police Station. The investigation is still ongoing.
In response to the incident, Mezo Noir has temporarily closed, citing “unforeseen circumstances,” and promised to provide an update on its reopening.
Martha Ahumuza Murari’s burial program has been released by her family. Born on December 13, 2002, and the daughter of Seth Murari, the Presidential Adviser on Sports, Martha passed away on March 20, 2025.
A vigil will be held today, Friday, March 21, 2025, at Kembabazi Catering Centre in Naguru, Kampala. A church service will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM at All Saints Church, Kampala.
Another service will be held that evening in Nyarubanga, Mbarara, with the burial set for Sunday, March 23, 2025, in Nyarubanga.
Meanwhile, Ahumuza’s father has since urged social media users to stop spreading false information and wait for police to do its job of investigating.
He noted these via his x handle; ”It is with a heavy heart that I announce the loss of our beloved daughter. (AHUMUZA MARTHA) As of now, we ask the public to STOP speculating and circulation of wrong information on social media as we put her to rest and let the security organs do their job of investigating.”
