A chilling murder case has gripped Jinja City following the suspicious death of a 39-year-old Norwegian national, Robert Hausvik, widely known as “Katongole” among locals.

Two individuals, Sheillah Nabatanzi, his girlfriend, and Ali Kigozi, his close friend, have been remanded to Kirinya Prison after postmortem results confirmed that Hausvik was strangled, contradicting their claim that he had taken his own life.

Appearing before Jinja Magistrate Yafesi Ochieng on March 21, the accused were not allowed to enter a plea, as the court lacks jurisdiction over capital offences. They were remanded until March 31, when the case will come up for mention.

The case unfolded on March 10 when Nabatanzi and Kigozi rushed Hausvik’s lifeless body to Mivule Crescent Medical Centre, claiming he had committed suicide at his rented home in Walukuba West, Jinja Southern Division.

However, medical personnel, upon confirming his death, alerted the police, prompting an investigation.

Detectives from the Kiira Regional CID, led by SSP Monday Johnson Agaba, discovered inconsistencies in the suicide story.

The body was transferred to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital before a forensic examination at Mulago National Referral Hospital, where pathologists led by AIGP Dr. Moses Byaruhanga ruled the cause of death as strangulation.

With evidence pointing to murder, authorities arrested Nabatanzi and Kigozi. Meanwhile, police are searching for another suspect, Kigozi’s girlfriend, only identified as Zam Zam, who fled after the incident.
