Just In: Bobi Wine’s Bodyguard Eddy Mutwe Allegedly Abducted

By Our Reporter

National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine, has alleged that his longtime bodyguard Eddie Mutwe, has been violently abducted by armed men.

Taking to his official Twitter account, Bobi Wine stated that Mutwe was seized from Kiwango Village in Mukono District by individuals dressed in Special Forces Command (SFC) uniforms, traveling in a Toyota van, commonly referred to as a “drone.”

“Comrade @eddie_mutwe has just been violently abducted from Kiwango village in Mukono district by armed men in SFC uniform traveling in a Toyota van (‘drone’),” Bobi Wine posted.

The news of the alleged abduction has since caused an uproar among Ugandans, with many taking to social media platforms to demand accountability and call on the government, under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, to respect the rights and freedoms of opposition members.

Bukoto East Member of Parliament, Hon. Evans Ronald Kanyike, also weighed in on the incident, expressing concern over what he described as a disturbing trend of increased abductions targeting NUP supporters. Hon. Kanyike highlighted that such actions stifle the democratic space and urged authorities to uphold the rule of law.

Meanwhile, NUP Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, joined the calls for justice, criticizing the selective application of the law. Rubongoya questioned why opposition supporters are jailed for allegedly insulting President Museveni and his son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, while General Muhoozi faces no consequences for his provocative statements online.

The developments have amplified calls from both local and international observers for the Ugandan government to guarantee fundamental freedoms, especially the right to free expression and political association.

As of press time, no official statement had been issued by Ugandan security forces regarding the alleged abduction.
