CEC Battle: Kyeswa Champions Grassroots Leadership As Key To Uganda’s Democratic Future

By Our Reporter

As Uganda gears up for its next cycle of elections, National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader and Central Executive Committee (CEC) aspirant Hakim Kyeswa is turning attention to the power of grassroots mobilization, urging citizens to take the lead in shaping the country’s democratic trajectory.

Speaking to party supporters in Kampala on Monday, Mr. Kyeswa placed strong emphasis on civic responsibility, calling on Ugandans from all walks of life to take part in the electoral process—not merely as voters, but as active participants in national development.

“Democracy is built from the ground up,” Kyeswa told the gathering. “Our country’s future depends on the decisions we make at the grassroots. This is not just about elections—it’s about ownership of the future.”

The seasoned mobilizer highlighted the NRM’s recently released electoral roadmap, pointing out that expressions of interest for local-level party positions are set to run from April 24th to 30th. He urged especially young people and women to step up and claim their space in the political arena, framing grassroots leadership as the engine of inclusive governance.

Kyeswa’s call comes at a time when many Ugandans, especially the youth, have expressed growing disillusionment with formal politics. His appeal seeks to counter that apathy by positioning civic engagement as both a duty and an opportunity.

“This is the moment to rise and act,” he said. “Leadership is not confined to Parliament or high offices. It starts in our villages, in our communities. If we want a Uganda that reflects our hopes and values, we must build it together—starting now.”

While Kyeswa is contesting for a strategic position within the ruling party, his campaign appears to lean more toward a movement for generational renewal than personal ambition. Under slogans like “The Generational Cause” and “Nothing for us without us,” he is rallying a wide cross-section of citizens who seek a more responsive and participatory political culture.

His message, which avoids sharp partisan rhetoric, has resonated even beyond NRM circles—striking a chord with Ugandans looking for leadership that prioritizes service, unity, and development over internal wrangling.

In closing, Kyeswa reminded his listeners that the Central Region, as Uganda’s political and economic hub, bears a unique responsibility to lead by example in the pursuit of democratic maturity and national cohesion.

“We must rise above divisions,” he urged. “Let us focus on governance, service delivery, and shared prosperity. That is how we honor our duty as citizens and as leaders.”
