Buyela Christopher Declares Bid for NRM Vice Chairperson Eastern Region, Calls For Inclusive Leadership

By Our Reporter

Mbale, Uganda – In a passionate declaration steeped in revolutionary spirit and party loyalty, Buyela Christopher has announced his candidacy for the position of Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). His message, titled “Standing on Shoulders of Sacrifice – A New Chapter for Eastern Uganda in NRM,” calls for a renewed commitment to fairness, inclusion, and recognition of unsung heroes within the party.

Referencing the party’s historical roots and the sacrifices made by founding members led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Buyela emphasized the need to honor those who laid the foundation of peace and stability in Uganda. He paid tribute to the veterans and historical figures who, he said, have not fully received the recognition or support they deserve.

“I present myself not just as an individual, but as a voice for the voiceless,” Buyela stated. “For the veterans, for the youth, for our mobilizers, and for the women who have tirelessly carried this party—my candidature is a call to reward loyalty and ensure no one is left behind.”

Buyela pointed to the demographic weight of Uganda’s youth, who comprise 78% of the population, and called for their greater involvement in planning and empowerment. He also highlighted the often-overlooked contributions of grassroots NRM mobilizers and the persistent underrepresentation of women in top party leadership roles.

In what he describes as a “shared vision,” Buyela appealed to the NRM fraternity to support a leadership that reflects the full spectrum of its support base in Eastern Uganda.

“For Revolution. For Service. For Eastern Uganda,” he concluded.

Buyela’s announcement adds momentum to the internal democratic processes within NRM as the party gears up for its next cycle of leadership elections. His message resonates with long-standing calls for internal reform, equity, and a rejuvenated commitment to the party’s founding principles.
