UICT Guild President Nkwanga Michael Pens Groundbreaking Book On Africa’s Untapped Potential: ‘Plight Of An African Child’

By Our Reporter

In a bold literary move that seeks to reshape the discourse around Africa’s future, Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology (UICT) guild president H.E. Michael Nkwanga has authored a powerful new book titled: “The Plight of an African Child: Africa’s Untapped Potential.”

The newly released work, already generating buzz among educators, students and activists, delves into the overlooked struggles and immense promise of African children. Spanning 40 provocative chapters, the book blends raw honesty with poetic defiance as it unpacks Africa’s historical wounds and present-day injustices—ranging from broken education systems and neglected healthcare to child labor, gender oppression and cultural chains.

“This book is my humble contribution to the conversations around Africa’s journey, her people and especially her children,” Nkwanga shared at the book’s unveiling. “It tells stories of struggle, survival and hope. It is a clarion call to think deeply about the systems we build and the futures we shape.”

Far from casting African children as mere victims, “The Plight of an African Child” positions them as visionaries: burdened yet driven, constrained yet creative. With each chapter, Nkwanga challenges readers to see the untapped potential that lies within Africa’s youth and to consider the urgent need for justice and transformation.

“In a time where Africa’s narrative is too often hijacked, distorted and silenced, this book emerges as a rare and necessary voice,” said an early reader. “It is a mirror to the past, a cry for justice and a torch lighting the path forward.”

For those committed to the continent’s progress—whether in classrooms, communities or corridors of power—Nkwanga’s work offers a timely, essential perspective. As he puts it: “Change must begin with truth, and the voices of the forgotten must be heard.”

“The Plight of an African Child” is available now at leading bookstores and online retailers.
