State Of Nation ‘Showdown’-5 Explosive Issues In Museveni’s Address Tomorrow

By Our Reporter

All attention will shift to the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Thursday, June 5, 2025, as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni delivers the State of the Nation Address, officially opening the 5th Session of the 11th Parliament of Uganda.

The annual constitutional address, scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m., will be attended by Members of Parliament, Cabinet Ministers, Judiciary officials, and other invited dignitaries. Transport for MPs and staff will start at 10:00 a.m. from Parliament’s South Wing Ground Floor Parking, according to a notice from Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige Kasaija.

The session follows the formal prorogation of the 4th session on May 29, 2025, by the Rt. Hon. Speaker Anita Among, paving the way for Thursday’s event. The prorogation marks the end of one parliamentary session and the beginning of a new one.

What To Expect In The Address

President Museveni is expected to outline his government’s policy priorities and legislative agenda for the coming year. Key topics likely to feature include:

  • Progress in Uganda’s oil and gas sector, as the country approaches its first oil production.
  • The status of East African Community (EAC) integration efforts.
  • Strategies to boost commercial agriculture and promote agro-industrialization.
  • Government measures to fight corruption and enhance public sector accountability.
  • Updates on the implementation of the National Development Plan III (NDP III), and hints at the upcoming National Development Plan IV (NDPIV).

High Security & National Broadcast

Security agencies have heightened their presence around Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, with strict protocols to manage the large number of attendees. The event will be broadcast live on UBC TV and Radio, and streamed on official Parliament and State House social media platforms.

The State of the Nation Address is a constitutional requirement under Article 101 (1) of the 1995 Constitution, compelling the President to address the nation at the start of each new parliamentary session.

The address also coincides with the launch of the Fourth National Development Plan (NDPIV), setting the tone for Uganda’s medium-term development priorities.
