Tragedy: 78yr Old Retired Teacher Dies In Lodge After Suspected Sex Pill Overdose

By Our Reporter

Kenya: Shock and speculation have gripped residents of Nyamira township after the body of a 78-year-old retired teacher was discovered in a lodging under unclear circumstances on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, identified as Saul Mokua from Bosamaro Chache location, was reportedly last seen on Monday evening checking into Club78, a notorious lodging within the Nyabite market, alongside a middle-aged woman.

According to Township Sub-location Chief Johnson Manyara, Mokua’s lifeless body was found lying on the bed the following day, with a packet of what appeared to be sex-enhancing pills found beside him.

“We found what looked like sex-enhancing pills next to the body, and it is suspected he may have taken an overdose,” Chief Manyara stated, adding that investigations are ongoing.

Family members of the late Mokua revealed that he had a long-standing history of high blood pressure, raising further concerns about the risks associated with the suspected drug intake.

The woman seen accompanying Mokua has yet to be identified, and authorities have not confirmed whether she has been located or questioned.

This incident has reignited controversy surrounding Club78, a lodging that has repeatedly come under public scrutiny. In late 2024, Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba vowed to shut it down after a schoolgirl was found in one of its rooms with a boda boda rider. Despite the promise, the establishment remains operational.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kinara Hospital Mortuary in Nyamira, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have launched investigations into the incident, which continues to raise serious questions about both public morality and regulatory enforcement in local hospitality establishments.
