Tragedy struck on Monday morning when a Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) bus collided with two trucks, leaving two people dead and nine others injured in Gujarat’s Kheda district, police reported.
The fatal accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on the Kapadvanj-Modasa Highway, near Pankhiya crossroads, as the bus was en route to Kheda district from Bayad town in Arvalli district, said Inspector A.R. Chaudhary.
According to initial investigations, the bus driver attempted to overtake a truck but lost control, crashing into an oncoming vehicle. The impact caused the bus to veer off and collide with a second truck approaching from behind.
“The bus first struck a truck coming from the opposite direction while overtaking, and then hit another truck following it,” said Inspector Chaudhary.
Among the deceased were the bus conductor, Sanjaysinh Bihola (51), and a passenger, Amarsinh Parmar (70). Both succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
Nine others, including seven passengers and the drivers of both the bus and one of the trucks, sustained injuries. All have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police say preliminary findings suggest the bus driver was at fault. An FIR is expected to be filed following statements from survivors and witnesses.
“The driver, who is currently hospitalised, appears to have caused the accident. We are recording statements and further investigation is underway,” Chaudhary added.
Authorities are urging greater caution on Gujarat’s highways, particularly on accident-prone stretches like the Kapadvanj-Modasa route.
