A 29-year-old woman in Georgia, USA, is in custody after allegedly stabbing a man to death following a confrontation over rejected sexual advances, authorities confirmed Sunday.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Samantha Leigh Carter, a waitress at a local tavern in the rural town of Hartsville. The victim, 35-year-old Marcus Reed, was pronounced dead at the scene after officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at a private residence on Route 82 shortly after midnight.
According to investigators, the pair had spent the evening drinking with friends before returning to Carter’s apartment. A heated argument reportedly broke out when Reed declined to engage in sexual activity, prompting Carter to allegedly grab a kitchen knife and stab him once in the chest.
Sheriff Dale Harrison told reporters that responding deputies found Reed unresponsive on the kitchen floor, and Carter was taken into custody without incident. A bloodied knife was recovered at the scene.
“This appears to be a crime driven by impulse, intoxication, and emotional volatility,” Harrison said. “We are treating it as a homicide, and formal charges are expected to be filed within the next 48 hours.”
Neighbors told local media that Carter and Reed had an on-and-off relationship and were often seen arguing in public. “It’s tragic, but honestly, the tension between them was always kind of explosive,” said one neighbor who declined to be named.
The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy for Monday morning. Meanwhile, Carter is being held without bond at the Franklin County Jail pending her arraignment.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and have urged anyone with further information to come forward.
