VU Storms Igenge Palace: Kyabazinga, Dr Muganga Launch Education Revolution To Empower Busoga’s Youth

By Frank Kamuntu

In a bold move that signals a new era for education in eastern Uganda, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV, has thrown his royal weight behind a sweeping education partnership with Victoria University, positioning the Kingdom as a future hub for tech-powered, inclusive learning.

This development unfolded on Friday, June 27, during a strategic audience at the Igenge Palace in Jinja between the monarch and a high-powered delegation from Victoria University led by its Vice Chancellor, Dr. Lawrence Muganga.

But this was no ceremonial handshake. It marked a turning point—a convergence of tradition and innovation—with the Kyabazinga signaling his intent to champion 21st-century education reforms that will redefine how knowledge is delivered to thousands in Busoga.

“This isn’t just another education partnership,” remarked Dr. Muganga. “It is a visionary pact between royalty and academia, and a rare opportunity to rewrite the story of learning in Uganda—from blackboard to broadband.”

Dr. Muganga described the meeting as “inspiring and forward-looking,” calling the Kyabazinga one of the most visionary monarchs of his time, whose commitment to youth empowerment and digital transformation places him among the most progressive traditional leaders globally.

The university’s team outlined a blueprint that includes modular learning, digital access, internship integration, and mentorship by industry leaders. Marketing and Recruitment Manager Conan Businge explained how these innovations are designed to plug gaps left by outdated academic models.

Julius Bukyana, the University’s PR Manager, emphasized that bringing Victoria University into the Kingdom’s education ecosystem was “not just a statement—it’s a strategic win for the future of Busoga.”

Dr. Shamim K. Matovu, the university’s Director of Cooperative Education, underscored the importance of real-world skills and mentorship, noting that the VU model is geared toward employability and societal impact.

His Majesty Gabula Nadiope IV, visibly impressed by the university’s approach, lauded its growth and commitment to educational equity. He pledged full support to the initiative and stressed the Kingdom’s readiness to act as a launchpad for transformative academic ventures.

Victoria University’s expanding footprint across Uganda—and its bold ambition to integrate technology with traditional learning—appears to be gaining royal validation. Dr. Muganga concluded by expressing hope that the partnership would not only uplift Busoga but serve as a template for national transformation.

As the Kingdom of Busoga steps into this new chapter, the partnership between tradition and innovation could become one of the most defining alliances in the region’s educational history.
