You Don’t Need Harvard Degree To Build Skyscrapers — Just Join Kyadondo Technical Institute Where Students Take Over Mega Projects!

By Frank Kamuntu

As Uganda’s skyline expands and infrastructure demands grow, one institution is positioning the next generation of builders to lead the charge — Kyadondo Technical Institute.

Located in Busaabala Trading Centre, Kyadondo Technical Institute is earning a strong reputation for hands-on, career-driven technical education. At the forefront of its engineering offerings is the National Diploma in Civil Engineering (NDCE) — a comprehensive two-year program shaping tomorrow’s infrastructure professionals.

“We don’t just teach engineering — we train problem-solvers. Builders of roads, bridges, water systems, and modern structures. Our students are equipped to change Uganda, brick by brick,” says Sserwanja Asadu, the founding director of Kyadondo Technical Institute.

A Curriculum That Builds Nations

The NDCE program at Kyadondo Technical Institute covers critical disciplines such as:

  • Structural Analysis
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Surveying and Quantity Surveying
  • Highway and Water Resources Engineering
  • Construction Management

This well-rounded curriculum ensures students gain both theoretical foundations and practical skills — including real-world site experience.

Students like Kaswamba Mark, a trainee in Electrical Installation, recently gave a glimpse into the institute’s learning-by-doing model:

“We’re on-site, working on electrical conduit systems for a new building on our campus. We collaborate with builders and plumbers, directing slab work and ensuring precision. It’s about teamwork and applying what we learn to real projects,” Mark explained during one of the institute’s live student exercises.

This kind of training gives students a unique edge in the job market, bridging the often-wide gap between classroom theory and industry practice.

Who Can Join?

The National Diploma in Civil Engineering is open to:

  • Holders of a Craft Certificate in Building Construction, or
