In an era where Uganda’s leadership is being tested on multiple fronts—from rapid industrialization to youth empowerment—one man is emerging as a powerful symbol of readiness, resilience, and visionary action. That man is Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, a multi-sector engineer, astronaut, patriotic investor, famous job creator, development consultant, and community transformation leader, now offering himself as Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Born in Hoima and raised with the values of service, discipline, and innovation, Jonard has spent the past two decades straddling the highest tiers of engineering and community development. His CV reads like a masterclass in national transformation. He is currently a PhD candidate in Oil & Gas Stakeholder Engagement and holds two master’s degrees: one in Project Management and another in Oil & Gas Governance from the University of Liverpool. He is also a certified Petroleum Consultant with the Petroleum Authority of Uganda and a founding member of the Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers Uganda.
But Jonard is more than a man of academic and technical credentials. He is a man of the people. Over the years, he has worked with communities from Busia to Karamoja, from Iganga to Rukiga. His development philosophy is one that marries technocracy with grassroots empathy. Through his companies under the Jonard Group, he has provided jobs for hundreds of Ugandans and led development projects that have transformed local economies.
In Busia, he helped convert informal smuggling networks into registered cooperative groups, bringing dignity and legality to hundreds of traders. In Hoima, he established skilling centers, sponsored football clubs like Kitara FC, and distributed science textbooks to rural schools. In Karamoja, he worked with artisanal miners to organize them into formal cooperatives, enabling them to benefit from Uganda’s emerging mineral economy.
Now, Jonard is ready to take this track record of delivery and scale it across Western Uganda and beyond. His manifesto for the 2026 elections, aligned with Vision 2040 and NDP IV, outlines a plan to transform youth potential into productive enterprise, formalize local trade into regional wealth, and infuse ideological education into national consciousness.
What makes Jonard truly stand out is his generational positioning. At a time when Uganda is looking for leaders who can bridge legacy with future, he represents a unique blend. Mature enough to have worked closely with the founding architects of the NRM, yet youthful and dynamic enough to connect with today’s rising generation, he is a bridge between wisdom and innovation.
“Leadership is not about occupying a position,” he says, “It is about aligning yourself to a mission.” That mission, for Jonard, is to make Uganda’s transformation real, visible, and sustainable for every citizen, regardless of background.
In Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, the NRM has not just a candidate—but a custodian of its values, a deliverer of its promises, and a champion for the future. Stay tuned for more updates!
