Nzeire Sedrack Nowomugisha Kaguta, the younger brother of President Yoweri Museveni, has moved to silence what he calls “baseless propaganda” aimed at discrediting his candidacy for the position of NRM National Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda.
For several days, rumours have circulated in NRM circles alleging that Nzeire had withdrawn from the hotly contested race. His opponents have allegedly used this narrative to sway delegates and destabilize his campaign.
But in a strong message to delegates, Nzeire reaffirmed his candidacy, declaring that he remains in the race and is determined to deliver victory.
“I am a law-abiding citizen, and in this particular case we are guided by the laws of our party. I remain a confident aspirant for the position of National Vice Chairperson Western,” he said, adding that “any communication suggesting otherwise should be ignored.”
Backing from Party Heavyweights
Nzeire’s campaign has received a major boost from Mbarara District NRM Chairman, Prosper Kururagire Tuhaise, who recently hosted him as chief guest during the launch of a brand new NRM office — a structure Prosper built with his own resources.
The event turned into a powerful show of support, with Prosper openly mobilising thousands of delegates across the western region to vote for Nzeire. Sources close to the campaign say that Prosper’s ground networks have already given Nzeire a commanding lead, with internal estimates placing him at 87% support among delegates.
Experience & Appeal
Having served as NRM Chairman for Kiruhura District for 15 years, Nzeire has built a reputation as a grassroots organiser and loyal cadre of the ruling party. He positions himself as a bridge between the youth and senior leaders, pledging to bring fresh energy and stronger grassroots representation into the NRM’s top organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC).
“It is only me, out of experience, who knows the challenges facing the lower party structures. I am the better link between the youth and our seniors, and a voice for the voiceless. The solution is the game changer,” Nzeire told delegates.
The Frontrunner
Observers say Nzeire’s candidacy is both symbolic and strategic. As Museveni’s brother and a veteran of party structures, his presence in CEC would consolidate Western Uganda under trusted leadership at a critical moment before the 2026 elections.
And with Prosper Kururagire’s unwavering mobilisation efforts, Nzeire appears to have turned the propaganda against him into renewed momentum, galvanizing delegates who see his campaign as unstoppable.
“Nzaire Sedrack Nowomugisha Kaguta is still in the race — and heading for victory,” Prosper told delegates during the office launch, echoing the message Nzeire himself has now delivered.
As the campaigns intensify, one thing has become clear: propaganda may try to shake him, but Nzeire’s support base remains solid — and growing stronger.
