Kawempe South On Fire: Nakamya Accuses Madina Of Tearing NRM Apart, Vows To Run As Independent

The race for Kawempe South is heating up as aspiring Member of Parliament Hon. Fatia Nakamya has launched a scathing attack on Hajat Madina Nsereko Ntale, the NRM flag bearer, accusing her of causing unprecedented chaos and division within the party that has left members “frustrated and divided beyond repair.”
Addressing a heated press conference yesterday, Nakamya minced no words, claiming that Madina’s leadership style is toxic and that she has turned the ruling party into a battlefield rather than a platform for unity.
“Hajat Madina is determined to make President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni lose heavily in Kawempe South. Instead of bringing members together, she has made them fight each other,” Nakamya charged, accusing her rival of fueling hostility within the party.
Nakamya, who bitterly contested the recent NRM primaries, accused Madina of waging personal wars against her supporters, likening her to a “cobra” striking down anyone who dared to back her opponents.
She alleged that Madina’s camp ferried “thousands of gangs” from different constituencies on voting day to tilt the results in her favour, an exercise she claims was backed by bribery and corruption.
“All my supporters have now been turned into enemies. Whoever stood with me during the primaries is being fought. They ferried people from other areas to vote for Madina, and even when I petitioned the NRM tribunal to nullify the results, nothing has been done,” Nakamya said.
According to her, despite filing a formal petition, the NRM tribunal has not responded to her case. She claims that when she followed up, she was told her file had been “closed” and forwarded to the party chairman, President Museveni.
“I doubt this explanation. Other petitions were worked on but mine has been shelved. I strongly believe the tribunal was bribed,” Nakamya alleged, accusing the process of lacking fairness and transparency.
Call For Museveni’s Intervention
Nakamya, flanked by other disgruntled NRM members who say their victories were also “grabbed,” appealed directly to President Museveni to intervene and save the party from further disintegration in Kawempe South.
“We are calling on the chairman to bring us together, stop this infighting, and reconcile members whose victories were stolen. If nothing is done, many of us will go as independents in 2026,” she warned.
Nakamya Declares Independent Bid
As the press conference concluded, Nakamya announced that she will stand as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2026 elections, vowing to face Madina head-on at the ballot box.
She accused Madina of arrogance, alleging that she brags about being a “state agent” who cannot be challenged.
Nakamya further questioned why Madina continues to hold multiple public positions while vying for a parliamentary seat, calling it “selfish and greedy.”
“How can one person be a Lands Commission member, Kawempe South NRM District Chairperson, and now a parliamentary candidate? Why can’t she allow others to serve? This is selfishness and greed of the highest order,” Nakamya said, adding that such practices alienate grassroots supporters and deny others opportunities for leadership.
Nakamya’s remarks underline the growing discontent within NRM ranks in Kawempe South. Many fear that if the internal wrangles are not resolved before 2026, the ruling party risks losing the constituency entirely.
Her explosive presser has set the stage for what promises to be one of the most hotly contested races in Kampala politics, with party unity now hanging in the balance.
