Two Dead, Four Injured In Fatal Gayaza–Zirobwe Road Crash

    By Frank Kamuntu

A grisly road accident on Sunday morning along the Gayaza–Zirobwe road at Magigye, opposite Hummer’s Bar & Green in Kasangati Division, Wakiso District, claimed the lives of two people and left four others seriously injured.

The collision involved a Toyota Passo, registration UBK 115G, and a heavy-duty truck, registration UBQ 253B. According to police, the two vehicles collided head-on under circumstances still under investigation.

The deceased were identified as Pastor Obedi Turyatunga, a resident of Ntungamo District who was driving the Toyota Passo, and four-year-old Promise Andinda.

Those injured in the accident include Immaculate Aimbisibwe, 42, a teacher at Bugema Adventist; Gerald Nuwagaba, a teacher at Kinoni Adventist School in Ntungamo District; and six-year-old Tabisa Ahabwe.

Eyewitness accounts conflicted over the cause of the crash, with some claiming the Toyota Passo veered out of its lane, while others alleged the truck driver lost control, leaving the Passo driver with no chance to avoid impact.

“Two occupants of the Toyota Passo died on the spot while four others sustained serious injuries,” Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said.

He added that traffic police officers from Kasangati promptly visited the scene. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mulago City Mortuary, while the injured were rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment.
