The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Youth League in Kumi District has pledged to deliver one million votes for the ruling party in the coming electoral cycles, marking what leaders describe as a new era of grassroots mobilization and youth-driven political strategy.

The commitment was unveiled by Mr. Okwii Sam, the Kumi District NRM Youth League Chairman, during a highly charged meeting that convened constituency and sub-county youth chairpersons. Far from being a symbolic declaration, the pledge was presented as part of a battle-tested strategy already underway.

A Pledge Rooted In Grassroots Strategy

In his remarks, Okwii laid out a meticulous, multi-tiered mobilization blueprint designed to go beyond traditional rally-based campaigning. The new approach emphasizes personalized, door-to-door engagement anchored in village-level structures.

“Our strength lies in our structure and our numbers,” Okwii declared to thunderous applause. “We are not just a wing of the party; we are its lifeblood and its foot soldiers. From every village, to every parish, to every sub-county, our youth leaders are already on the ground, articulating the NRM’s message of peace, stability, and development. This million-vote target is not a wish; it is a meticulously calculated goal we are already achieving.”

Youth as Critical Stakeholders

The Kumi youth leaders emphasized that their efforts must be supported with tangible backing from the NRM secretariat and senior government officials. They cited the need for capacity-building workshops, logistical facilitation, and a stronger platform to present their ideas and concerns.

“For a long time, the youth were seen merely as voters to be mobilized on election day,” noted youth DEC officials. “Today, the party leadership sees us as essential partners in governance and mobilization year-round. This recognition fuels our passion. It tells us that our efforts are valued, our voices are heard, and our role is critical in shaping the future of the NRM and Uganda.”

This evolving sense of ownership, they argued, is transforming young people from passive supporters into proactive ambassadors of the NRM ideology. By connecting government programs such as Emyooga, the Parish Development Model, and youth livelihood funds to persuasive community conversations, the youth leaders aim to translate policies into votes.

A Model For Nation

The bold pledge from Kumi is drawing attention from NRM chapters across Uganda, with many describing it as a new benchmark for grassroots mobilization. Analysts note that the strategy demonstrates how a structured, empowered, and appreciated youth base can become the most formidable asset in a party’s political arsenal.

As the electoral season draws closer, the Kumi Youth League’s declaration is being hailed as both a rallying call and a strategic framework—one that could reshape how the NRM engages with Uganda’s youthful population and secures its electoral dominance for years to come.
