Engines Roar Ahead Of 2026! EC Imports Swanky New Rides For Presidential Aspirants

By Our Reporter

The Electoral Commission (EC) has imported a fleet of brand-new Toyota Land Cruisers and double-cabin pickup trucks that will be allocated to presidential candidates in the 2026 general elections.

The vehicles, which have already started arriving at the EC headquarters in Kampala, will be used by the security detail of presidential candidates once they are officially nominated. EC officials say the measure is part of efforts to ensure the safety of candidates during the campaign period.

Key Dates In Electoral Roadmap

The EC has confirmed that presidential nominations will take place on Tuesday, 23rd, and Wednesday, 24th September 2025 — a critical step in Uganda’s electoral calendar.

Aspirants have been picking up nomination forms since 11th August 2025. To qualify, they must meet a set of requirements including being a Ugandan citizen by birth, a registered voter, and having at least an Advanced Level (A’ Level) education or its equivalent.

Independent aspirants are additionally required to collect at least 100 signatures from registered voters in at least two-thirds of Uganda’s districts before submitting their nomination papers.

Campaign & Polling Periods

Following the nomination exercise, the official presidential campaign period will run from 4th October 2025 to 12th January 2026.

General elections — covering presidential, parliamentary, and local government races — will then be conducted between 12th January and 9th February 2026, marking the climax of the country’s highly anticipated electoral season.
