Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) has tonight received the first batch of ballot papers at Entebbe International Airport, marking another critical milestone in preparations for the forthcoming national elections.

In a strong demonstration of transparency and accountability, the Commission invited agents of all presidential candidates to witness the arrival and verification of the sensitive electoral materials. The move underscores the EC’s continued commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections in line with constitutional and international best practices.

Representing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, was Counsel Usaama Sebuufu, nominated by the party’s official agent, Counsel Edwin Karugire of K&K Advocates. Sebuufu’s presence was widely welcomed, with party officials and observers noting his professionalism, integrity, and long-standing experience in legal and electoral matters.

Counsel Sebuufu is regarded as a trusted legal mind within the NRM camp, known for his calm demeanor, sharp legal insight, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the interests of the party and its candidate. His selection to represent President Museveni at such a critical stage reflects the confidence placed in his ability to scrutinize electoral processes and uphold transparency with diligence and credibility.

Commenting on the exercise, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, the Manager of the Office of the NRM National Chairman based in Kyambogo, praised the Electoral Commission for what she described as exemplary openness.

“This is what real democracy looks like. The Electoral Commission has shown transparency by inviting all candidates’ agents to witness the arrival of ballot papers. This gives confidence to Ugandans that the process is clean and credible,” Namyalo said.

Popularly known as the Chief Muzzukulu and a staunch mobilizer of President Museveni, Namyalo further applauded the NRM government for entrenching a unique and practical form of democracy in Uganda.

“Under President Museveni’s leadership, Uganda practices democracy, not just talking about it. Elections here are open, participatory, and transparent. Unlike some countries that lecture others about democracy while denying it at home, Uganda allows scrutiny at every stage,” she noted.

Namyalo emphasized that the transparent handling of electoral materials is a direct result of the political will and democratic foundations laid by President Museveni’s government over the years. She credited the administration for strengthening institutions such as the Electoral Commission and allowing them to operate independently and professionally.

“This government has built institutions that Ugandans can trust. The Electoral Commission is doing its work professionally because it is supported, respected, and protected by the NRM government,” she added.

As Uganda inches closer to polling day, tonight’s exercise at Entebbe has been hailed as a confidence-building step that reinforces public trust in the electoral process. With all stakeholders involved and processes open to scrutiny, many observers say the country is once again demonstrating its commitment to peaceful, transparent, and democratic elections.

The Electoral Commission is expected to continue receiving and distributing electoral materials under similar transparent arrangements as preparations intensify nationwide.
