President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni’s landslide victory in Uganda’s recently concluded general elections has been formally sealed following the gazettement of the final presidential election results by the Electoral Commission.
The results were published in the Uganda Gazette Extraordinary dated 6 February 2026, giving the outcome full legal effect in accordance with the law.
Museveni was declared the winner of the January 15 presidential election, securing a fresh five-year term in office. According to the Electoral Commission, he garnered 72 per cent of the total vote, defeating his closest challenger, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, who obtained 25 per cent.
The results were published under General Notice No. 244 of 2026, pursuant to Section 59(3) of the Presidential Elections Act, Cap. 179. The notice shows that Museveni, the flag bearer of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), polled 7,946,772 votes, emerging ahead of seven other contenders.
Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform (NUP) followed with 2,741,238 votes, while James Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) secured 209,039 votes.
Other candidates included Mugisha Gregory Muntu Oyera of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) with 59,276 votes, Bulira Frank Kabiga of the Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP) with 45,959 votes, Kasibante Robert of the National Peasants’ Party (NPP) with 33,440 votes, Munyagwa Mubarak Sseruga of the Common Man’s Party (CMP) with 31,666 votes, and Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP) who polled 23,458 votes.
The gazettement marks the final statutory step in confirming the presidential election results and accords them full legal standing, subject only to successful challenge through the courts.
Under Ugandan law, publication in the official gazette formally recognises the president-elect, opens the constitutional window for filing election petitions, and clears the way for the swearing-in ceremony and commencement of the next presidential term.
Meanwhile, Kasibante Robert, who had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the election outcome, has since applied to withdraw the case, citing prohibitive legal costs.
Copies of the gazetted results are available at all Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) offices nationwide and on the UPPC online portal.
