Horror! Two Top Officials Of Uganda Prisons, One Civilian Shot Dead!

The Uganda Prisons Service has confirmed a fatal shooting incident at Kiboga Government Prison that claimed the lives of three people, including two senior prison officers.

In an official press statement issued on February 23, 2026, the Commissioner General of Prisons expressed deep regret over the tragic incident, which occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m.

The deceased have been identified as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, who served as the Deputy Officer in Charge; Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright, the third in command at the facility; and Ms. Ayebare Sarah, spouse of the Officer in Charge.

According to the statement, the suspect, identified as No. 13544 Warder Anguyo Moses, allegedly opened fire on his supervisors, fatally shooting them before fleeing the facility.

Security agencies responded swiftly to the scene. Police secured the area, and joint security teams have since launched an active manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large and is considered dangerous. Authorities confirmed that the firearm used in the shooting has been recovered.

The Uganda Prisons Service has urged members of the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to report any information that could assist in locating the suspect to the nearest police station or security agency.

Officials pledged to keep the public informed as investigations and security operations continue.

“May the souls of the deceased rest in eternal peace,” the statement concluded.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the corrections service and the broader community in Kiboga District, as authorities work to establish the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation.
