The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has officially launched the 2026 UBC National Qur’an Competitions, describing the initiative as a transformative platform for nurturing moral leadership, discipline, and spiritual growth among Uganda’s youth.
The colorful ceremony, held Wednesday at the headquarters of the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) in Kampala, drew religious leaders, renowned Qur’an teachers, young reciters, and community members from across the country. The gathering celebrated Islamic scholarship, unity, and excellence in Qur’anic recitation.
In her keynote address, Namyalo underscored the central role of the Holy Qur’an in shaping character and promoting harmony within society. She commended the young participants for their dedication to memorization and mastery of recitation, noting that such commitment reflects resilience, discipline, and strong moral grounding.
“The Qur’an is not only a book of guidance but a foundation for integrity, responsibility, and peaceful coexistence. Competitions like these strengthen our nation by raising principled and focused young people,” Namyalo said.
Organized annually by UBC, the national competition convenes Muslim youth from different regions of Uganda to showcase their proficiency in recitation, Tajwīd (proper pronunciation and articulation), and Hifz (memorization of the Qur’an). Over the years, the event has grown into a respected national forum that promotes faith, academic excellence, and cultural harmony.
Religious leaders at the launch praised UBC for providing a national platform that elevates Islamic education and encourages young people to embrace the values of patience, humility, and perseverance embedded in the Qur’an.
Namyalo reaffirmed the ONC’s continued support for initiatives that empower communities through faith-based engagement and education. She emphasized that beyond trophies and accolades, the ultimate victory lies in living by the teachings of the Qur’an.
“True success is not measured only by winning competitions, but by embodying the values of honesty, compassion, and service to others,” she added.
The multi-day competition will culminate in a grand finale where outstanding reciters will be awarded, further cementing the UBC National Qur’an Competitions as a key fixture on Uganda’s religious and cultural calendar and a beacon of moral renewal for the nation’s youth.
