Kampala — The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has praised HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for championing women’s empowerment and creating opportunities that have enabled women to take up leadership roles across the country.
In a message ahead of International Women’s Day, which Uganda will commemorate on Sunday, March 8, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, Namyalo said the progress women have made in Uganda reflects deliberate government efforts to uplift and empower them.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our dear President and National Chairman, His Excellency YK Museveni,” Namyalo said. “You have empowered the women of this generation and uplifted us to positions where our voices are heard and respected.”
According to Namyalo, many women today are actively participating in governance, community leadership, and economic activities, a development she attributed to the enabling environment created under President Museveni’s leadership.
She noted that women have increasingly gained confidence and visibility in national development, allowing them to play a more active role in shaping the country’s future.
At the same time, Namyalo paid tribute to mothers across the country, particularly single mothers, whom she described as symbols of resilience and sacrifice.
“You are the true definition of the strength of a woman,” she said. “Many of you have sacrificed your own happiness to ensure that your children are raised well and that the nation continues to build strong generations.”
Uganda is marking this year’s celebration under the theme “Scaling up Investment to Accelerate Access to Justice for All Women and Girls in Uganda.”
The national celebrations will be presided over by President Museveni as part of Uganda’s 42nd commemoration of the global event. Organisers say one of the key highlights will be an all-female parade staged by the country’s security forces.
In addition, a total of 34 individuals are expected to receive national medals in recognition of their contribution to the advancement of women and national development.
Observed annually on March 8, International Women’s Day is a global moment to celebrate women’s achievements while reflecting on the ongoing struggle for equality and justice. The day traces its origins to historic labour movements and campaigns for women’s voting rights that later evolved into a worldwide movement advocating for gender equality. The United Nations formally recognized the day in 1977.
Namyalo congratulated women across Uganda upon the upcoming celebration and encouraged them to continue embracing leadership and contributing to the country’s development.
