Authorities have moved to shut down New Best Hotel in Busega following allegations that the establishment is involved in pornography-related activities, signaling a tougher stance against businesses accused of violating national moral and legal standards.
The warning was issued by the Pornography Control Committee, chaired by Annet Kezaabu. The committee stated that the hotel has been repeatedly cautioned over reports linking it to the production or facilitation of explicit content.
According to officials, management at the Busega-based facility has been engaged several times, but concerns have persisted.
“We have engaged and warned the management several times. If there is no change, stronger enforcement action will be taken, including possible closure,” the committee said in a statement.
New Best Hotel has been widely associated with allegations of facilitating paid sexual activity on its premises, though authorities emphasized that investigations are ongoing as part of due process.
The case forms part of a broader nationwide crackdown targeting establishments suspected of promoting or enabling pornography. Officials say enforcement efforts will be applied uniformly, regardless of location or status.
The committee further warned that such environments often contribute to wider social challenges, including exploitation and the exposure of young people to harmful content.
The latest development comes amid intensified efforts by multiple government agencies to curb the spread of obscene material both online and offline. The Uganda Communications Commission has been conducting parallel operations aimed at digital platforms accused of distributing explicit content.
Authorities say the crackdown aligns with the implementation of the National Ethical Values Policy, which seeks to promote moral standards and safeguard vulnerable groups, particularly children.
Government has reiterated that all individuals and businesses must comply with existing laws, warning that violators risk closure, prosecution, or other legal action.
