Traffic along the busy Kampala–Jinja Highway was heavily disrupted on Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in Seeta, near the Mogas petrol station, destroying a timber-filled building.
According to the Police Fire and Rescue Services, emergency teams responded swiftly to contain the blaze, with firefighting efforts still ongoing by mid-morning. Authorities said the cause of the fire has not yet been established and will be communicated after investigations are completed.
The incident significantly affected movement along the stretch between Namanve—near the Coca-Cola plant—and Seeta, prompting police to divert motorists to alternative routes.
Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura confirmed that congestion had built up rapidly due to the emergency operations.
“A fire has gutted a building containing timber in Seeta near Mogas petrol station. Motorists have been diverted as firefighting continues,” he said.
Drivers traveling from Mukono towards Kampala have been advised to use the Seeta–Sonde–Namugongo route to access the city. Meanwhile, those heading from Kampala to Mukono are encouraged to pass through Namanve Industrial Park or use the Northern Bypass via Naalya, Kyaliwajjala, and Sonde.
Despite the diversions, authorities warned that delays are expected as traffic pressure increases on the alternative routes. Motorists have been urged to follow guidance from traffic officers and exercise caution while driving near the affected areas.
Police also appealed for patience from the public as emergency teams work to fully contain the fire and restore normal traffic flow.
