Uganda is finalizing preparations for the swearing-in of President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for a seventh term, with over 40,000 guests expected to attend the historic ceremony at Kololo Independence Grounds on 12th May 2026.
Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Milly Babalanda, announced the figures during a joint press conference held at the Uganda Media Centre alongside NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong.
According to Babalanda, the guest list includes 35 Heads of State, 30 high-ranking diplomats, and numerous delegates from various liberation movements across the continent.
In line with established tradition, the Minister also called upon all Ugandans to engage in nationwide thanksgiving prayers ahead of the inauguration. The prayers, she explained, are intended to seek divine guidance for peace and stability as the country ushers in a new term.
“According to tradition, thanksgiving prayers shall be held throughout the country ahead of this significant day. We appeal to all Ugandans to attend these prayers for peace and stability in their respective places of worship on their designated dates,” Babalanda said.
Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary General, confirmed that 12th May 2026, will be a public holiday to allow all Ugandans to participate in the swearing-in ceremonies.
“This is a day of national pride and constitutional continuity. We encourage all citizens to turn out in large numbers to witness this democratic exercise,” Todwong stated during the press briefing.
The inauguration will mark President Museveni’s continuation in office following the recently concluded general elections. Officials say the ceremony will adhere to constitutional provisions while showcasing Ugandan cultural and military pageantry.
