Sironko District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Asha Mafabi Nabulo, has been appointed Chairperson of the Sironko District Roads Committee, a key leadership role that places her at the center of efforts to improve road infrastructure and connectivity across the district.
The appointment, confirmed on Friday, comes at a time when Sironko continues to grapple with significant transportation challenges caused by its mountainous terrain and aging road network. The Roads Committee is mandated to oversee the maintenance, rehabilitation, and development of district roads, a responsibility regarded as crucial for improving service delivery and stimulating local economic growth.
Hon. Nabulo succeeds former District Woman MP Florence Nambozo Wamala and is expected to spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing road accessibility in both urban and rural communities.
In her remarks following the appointment, Hon. Nabulo pledged to work closely with district leaders, technical departments, and development partners to address longstanding infrastructure challenges affecting residents.
She emphasized that reliable road networks are fundamental to socio-economic transformation, noting that improved roads facilitate access to markets, schools, health facilities, and other essential services.
“Road infrastructure remains one of the most important drivers of development. Improving connectivity across the district will support trade, strengthen agricultural productivity, and enhance access to critical services for our communities,” she said.
The appointment has been welcomed by local leaders, who expressed confidence in her ability to accelerate road improvement efforts in a district where poor road conditions have historically constrained development, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
Residents also voiced optimism, saying improved road infrastructure would help lower transportation costs, ease movement of goods and people, and attract investment to rural communities.
Under her leadership, the Roads Committee is expected to prioritize critical road sections, coordinate with relevant technical teams, mobilize resources, and oversee maintenance works aimed at improving motorability throughout the district.
Safe Water Project Launched in Bukiise
The roads appointment comes as Hon. Nabulo continues to advance community development initiatives across Sironko District.
On Friday, June 19, the legislator launched a safe water project in Nalugugu Parish, Bukiise Sub-county, an intervention expected to improve access to clean and safe water for hundreds of residents.
The project, implemented in partnership with the Nile Humanitarian Development Agency, was officially commissioned during a community event attended by local leaders and residents. Hon. Nabulo was represented by her Political Assistant, Mr. Gimei Clyan.
For years, residents of Bukiise Sub-county have faced challenges accessing safe and reliable water sources, often depending on limited facilities that struggled to meet growing demand. The newly commissioned boreholes are expected to significantly reduce pressure on existing water points while improving public health, sanitation, and household welfare.
Speaking on behalf of Hon. Nabulo, Mr. Gimei described the project as part of the legislator’s broader commitment to delivering practical solutions to challenges affecting local communities.
“This initiative reflects Hon. Nabulo’s dedication to improving the quality of life of residents through interventions that directly address their everyday needs,” he said.
Community members welcomed the development, describing access to clean water as one of the most pressing issues affecting livelihoods in the area. Many expressed hope that the new facilities would reduce the distance traveled to fetch water and improve sanitation standards.
Driving Development Through Infrastructure
The combination of improved water access and renewed focus on road infrastructure highlights Hon. Nabulo’s growing role in advancing development priorities across Sironko District.
Local leaders noted that investments in roads and safe water are among the most impactful interventions for improving living standards and unlocking economic opportunities, particularly in rural communities.
With her new responsibilities as Chairperson of the District Roads Committee and her continued support for community-based development projects, Hon. Nabulo is positioning herself at the forefront of efforts aimed at enhancing service delivery and fostering sustainable development in Sironko District.
As the district continues to address infrastructure gaps, residents and leaders alike remain hopeful that the ongoing initiatives will contribute to improved livelihoods, stronger local economies, and a better future for communities across Sironko.
