Panic As Residents In Soroti Find Abandoned Bomb In A Trench

By Our Reporter

Early Wednesday morning, security operatives in Soroti successfully secured an abandoned mortar bomb near Soroti Market. The device, identified as a 160mm M2 mortar projectile with multiple fins, was discovered along Market Street, close to the Landmark Hotel.

A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the incident. Authorities have not disclosed the suspect’s identity, but they are currently in custody at Soroti Central Police Station for interrogation.

East Kyoga Region Police Commander, Damali Nachuha, confirmed that the situation has now normalized. “The bomb has been removed, and the area is safe,” Nachuha stated.

Earlier in the day, tension gripped the city as news spread that a bomb had been found in a drainage trench.

The recovery of the bomb and the arrest of the suspect have brought relief to Soroti residents, particularly market vendors who feared potential terrorist attacks.

Police said they continue their efforts to gather more information about the suspect and any possible accomplices.
