Hon Allan Mayanja Sebunya the Nakaseke Central legislator has asked the concerned government ministers to ‘wake up’ from their comfort zones and sensitize the public about the national census scheduled to kick off on 10th May 2024.
Mayanja’s call was during the plenary on Monday when he informed Rt Hon Speaker Anita Annet Among that millions of Ugandans have less information about this forthcoming exercise which is very crucial for budgeting purposes and better planning for the country.
”Madam speaker I am bringing this issue in a matter of procedure expecting you to make a statement about the census which is about to kick off in three days, and I think the minister responsible can give us an update because most Ugandans aren’t aware about this activity which is very important because it helps us as parliament in budgeting for our people,” said Hon Mayanja, a restless legislator and committed servant of the people of Nakaseke.
Hon Mayanja says for people to get involved in this exercise, they should be made to understand why it is important to be counted, and also given satisfying guidance on the barrage of questions set by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS).

”I hear our people are supposed to answer over 150 questions during the census. Well, very few know how to even answer all these but also of which importance?, this is the information that our people should get, we don’t need to just throw things onto our people,” said Hon Mayanja who is likely to return in 2026 based on the mega achievements he has achieved for the people of Nakaseke.
Hon Mayanja on top of representing the people of Nakaseke in the 11th Parliament, also serves as Vice Chairman Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises (COSASE). He is also a seasoned human rights defender, former speaker of Buganda kingdom youth and a loyal member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) headed by former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
