Kenya: In the Saturday, May 18 accident, Naboka Sacco’s 33-seater bus plunged into the Mbagathi River.

The bus driver, who is among the fatalities, is reported to have lost control and veered off the road.

According to a police report, the 10am accident happened close to Cooperative University, killing eight people on the spot.

“This morning 18/05/24 around 10:00am a psv matatu plying Gataka Nairobi route lost control and plunged into Mbagathi river just before Cooperative University killing 8 people on the spot. The rest were rescued by various ambulances and taken to nearby hospitals although in critical conditions. Police are on sight,” read the report.

The police advised Kenyans to use alternative routes due to the heavy traffic caused by the accident.

The Kenya Red Cross Society reported that they were at the scene helping with the rescue operations alongside well-wishers and county government emergency response teams.

They revealed that 13 survivors had been rushed to nearby health facilities for better medical care.

“Thirteen people have been rushed to hospital after a PSV minibus lost control and overturned near Hardy Police Station in Karen. Emergency response efforts continue thanks to the County Government, Kenya Red Cross, @Ems_Kenya and well-wishers,” said the society.
