On Saturday, tragedy struck along the Lira-Soroti highway when a minibus carrying Lango Province football players collided with a Fuso truck. The impact left at least three people dead and 60 others seriously injured.
The minibus, operated by Dokolo School of Nursing, was en route from Dokolo District to Lira City. Simultaneously, the Fuso truck was transporting guests who had attended a traditional marriage ceremony in Lira City.
According to reports, the collision occurred in Abutadi. The minibus, bearing registration number UBL 851Z, was heading towards Lira-City, while the Fuso truck (registration number UBA 200J) was coming from Lira. Tragically, the Fuso driver, allegedly speeding, lost control and crashed head-on into the minibus, resulting in the loss of three lives on the spot.
Mr. Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed that the truck driver promptly reported the incident to Kaberamaido police station. Meanwhile, the minibus driver is among the 60 individuals currently receiving treatment at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
