Finally: UPDF Reveals Reasons Why Pt Sabiiti’s Body Is Still Held!

By Frank Kamuntu

Uganda People’s Defense Force’s spokesperson Felix Kulayigye has responded to the family of late Pt Wilson Sabiiti saying his body will be released for burial after critical investigations are done.

Sabiiti is a bodyguard who shot and killed State Minister of Labour Col. Charles Engola on May 2 and later killed himself. Sabiiti was assigned to the minister’s security detail a month ago before he killed him.

The minister was buried at his ancestral home in Oyam district on Saturday last week but 15 days since Sabiiti took his life, his body has never been taken to his ancestral home for burial.

Reports quoting Kulayigye state that the army is still investigating the motives and circumstances surrounding Sabiiti’s death.

“Sabiiti’s body will be released to his family once our investigation is complete,” he stated adding that UPDF is responsible for the burial of soldiers but in Sabiiti’s case, they will not carry out the burial.

“The law does not permit us to conduct a burial for someone who has committed suicide,” Kulayigye explained.

Sabiiti was 33-years-old at the time of his death. Before joining the army, he married his first wife with whom they produced two children. He later got himself a second wife who also produced two children.
