Zari’s Heart Touching Life Story On BBC: When I Was Young, I Dreamed Of Marrying A Wealthy Man, But Realised It Wasn’t Easy”

By Frank Kamuntu

Entrepreneur Zari Hassan has opened up about her life in general, from childhood and the things she values and invests most of her time in.

In an interview with BBC Swahili in London, Zari sat in the hot seat and answered five rapid-fire questions with eloquence.

One of the questions Zari was asked was about her life when she was young and whether she dreamed of the luxurious life she now has.

The mother of five revealed that indeed, as a child, her main dream was to sleep and wake up engaged to a wealthy man.

However, Zari disclosed that it wasn’t as easy as she thought; she had to wake up from the dream and start working.

She revealed that she worked low-paying jobs for over 20 years before achieving the life she is proud of now, also dispelling the notion that she inherited a lot of wealth from her late mother.

“I used to think I would wake up, marry a wealthy man, wear expensive gold… but I realized it wasn’t easy. That’s when I realized that I indeed needed a good life but had to work for it,” she said.

The entrepreneur opened up about what motivated her to work tirelessly, emphasizing that she did not come from an affluent family.

“That gave me the motivation that I don’t come from a good family, so it was my responsibility. I said when I go back, I will work harder,” she added.

When asked about how she allocates her time, Zari stated that currently, the things she prioritizes the most are her husband and children.

Regarding the secret to her success, Zari reiterated her advice for people always to start at the bottom, with whatever little they have.

“I always say, and I will repeat it again, start at the bottom. I’m always amazed at people who think you should just rise to the top immediately. No, that’s not possible; very few people do that, and they are the chosen ones. If you look at my life journey, I have worked for over 20 years, and those are the small steps.

There comes a time when you look back and say, oh, I’ve come a long way. So start with the small steps,” Zari further advised.
