Namisindwa District hopeful MP Dr. Sarah Khanakwa Bwayo yesterday drew endless smiles on the cheeks of over 100 expectant pregnant mothers who gathered at Bupoto Health Centre.
In this initiative dubbed “Safe Birth Delivery” aiming to curb maternal mortality rates, Dr Khanakwa donated mama kits and basins to dozens of expectant mothers across the district, to safeguard the health of both mothers and newborns.
In the mama kits she donated included a one-meter piece of cotton cloth (baby wrapper), one laundry soap, a pair of gloves, a piece of cotton wool, small gauze, cord ligature, and a meter of polythene sheet.
Several mothers who turned up for this rare yet very crucial impactful initiative hailed Dr Khanakwa for prioritizing the health of the mothers of the nation, adding that not everyone can afford a mama kit.
”The reality is we need leaders who stand by people and who prioritize our well-being, Dr Khanakwa has proved that indeed she is a mother and she knows how risky that time of delivery is, that’s why she has ended this huge support to us, we are thankful and on behalf of other mothers in Namisindwa I want to assure her that she has supported us, we are ready to support her,” said Nanjala Beatrice, who was among the beneficiaries.
Dr. Sarah Khanakwa’s mission is to traverse the entire district, distributing mama kits to mothers in need as part of her contribution to safe birth delivery in Namisindwa.
