Just In: High Court Judge David Majanja Dies

Kenyan High Court Judge David Majanja has died.

Majanja died on Wednesday, July 10, while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

Confirming the news, Chief Justice Martha Koome said she was saddened by Majanja’s untimely death.

‘On behalf of the Judiciary and the Judicial Service Commission, it is with profound sadness that I announce the sudden passing of Hon. Justice David Amilcar Shikomera Majanja, Judge of the High Court of Kenya and Commissioner of the Judicial Service Commission,’ Koome said.

Majanja had just been re-elected as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) representing the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA)

Prior to his re-election, Justice Majanja served as the Chairperson of the Human Resource Management Committee and was also a member of the Audit, Governance and Risk Management Committee and Learning and Development Committee.

He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the University of Pretoria and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi.

His death comes less than a month after the death of Makadara Law Court principal magistrate Monicah Kivuti.

On Saturday, June 15, CJ Koome confirmed the untimely death of Kivuti, who had been hospitalised after being shot by police officer Samson Kipruto.

Koome said Kivuti died due to extensive injuries sustained during an open gun attack at the Makadara Law Courts.

Netizens shared their condolences, with some stating that Kivuti’s death was a big blow to the Kenya Judiciary fraternity.
