Police in Bushenyi District have launched investigations into the gang-rape of a Kampala International University (KIU) student by knife-wielding assailants, who also stole her Samsung A16 mobile phone.
The incident occurred on Sunday at about 10:20 a.m. in Katungu Cell, Ishaka Division, where the victim — a Nigerian national and second-year Law student at KIU’s Western Campus — resides.
According to police reports, the attackers forced their way into the student’s room, threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm, then raped her in turns before fleeing with her phone.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at Bushenyi Police Health Centre II, where she was administered post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent possible HIV infection.
Greater Bushenyi Region acting police spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, confirmed the incident and said detectives had visited the scene to collect evidence.
“Police are actively investigating the matter to apprehend the culprits and recover the stolen property. We call upon members of the public to share any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects and ensure justice for the victim,” SP Tayebwa said.
Police also issued the victim a PF3 medical form for documentation following the medical examination.
No arrests had been made by press time, but security teams are pursuing leads in an effort to bring the perpetrators to justice.
