The daughter of President Museveni, Patience Rwabwogo, has opened up about a harrowing financial ordeal that nearly saw her family’s home auctioned by a bank after they fell behind on mortgage payments.
Speaking to her congregation at Covenant Nations Church, Ms Rwabwogo detailed how only divine intervention prevented the loss of their home.
The incident, which occurred over 18 years ago, began when the Rwabwogo family faced financial difficulties that led to a delay in their mortgage payments.
Despite their prominence, they found themselves grappling with mounting interest and the threat of foreclosure.
“We were paying the loan with our income from our businesses, and at some point, we had some struggles,” Ms Rwabwogo recalled.
“We got behind in the mortgage, and the interest started piling up.”
The situation escalated when the family received a stern warning from their bank. “One day we got a letter from the bank,” Ms Rwabwogo said.
“The bank said if you don’t pay the interest and also bring your account up to current within seven days, we’re going to advertise this house.”
The threat of losing their home, she explained, brought on a wave of fear and uncertainty.
However, Ms Rwabwogo turned to her faith for guidance.
“I took the letter into my place of prayer. I said, ‘Lord, look what the bank is saying. They’re going to auction our home,’” she recounted, highlighting her deep anxiety over the potential foreclosure.
It was during this moment of desperation that Ms Rwabwogo says she experienced what she believes was divine guidance.
Instead of focusing on the financial predicament, she felt compelled to use what little money they had to make new cupboards for their home.
“God told me, ‘Go and make some new cupboards,’” she said.
“I thought, ‘What? Have you seen this letter? I will not have any place to put cupboards if we don’t fix this situation.’ But He said, ‘Don’t worry about that. Go and make cupboards.’”
Despite initial doubts, Ms Rwabwogo followed the instruction, which she described as an act of faith.
“I knew that I had connected with God in some way, even if it looked crazy,” she said.
“In my heart, I felt that God was using that act of faith to communicate into my mind, ‘Don’t be afraid. You are going to live in this house for a long time.’”
In a surprising turn of events, soon after she followed through with the instruction, the family was able to secure the funds needed to settle their debt.
“By the grace of God, He opened a way for us. We got the money that we needed,” Rwabwogo shared.
Not only were they able to pay off the arrears, but they also managed to clear the entire mortgage.
