”Embrace Gov’t Programs To End Poverty In Your Homesteads”- MP Hopeful Khanakwa Tips Namisindwa People

By Frank Kamuntu

Namisindwa’s hopeful District Woman member of Parliament, Dr. Khanakwa Sarah (PhD), has urged the youth to resist being overtaken by modern societal trends and instead focus on goals that will transform them into responsible citizens.

Dr. Khanakwa made this statement on Sunday while commissioning a youth football mini-tournament at Kaboyi Primary School playground in Bumwoni sub-county, Namisindwa district.

She expressed concerns that the youth are embracing a culture that misguides their minds, diverting their focus from essential cultural values and educational goals.

She emphasized the need for youth in Bugisu region to fight against poverty and ignorance and to live faithfully.

She advised parents to introduce their children to informal education, which includes discipline, domestic work, respect for others, and decent dressing, to help them grow responsibly.

“Parents should introduce their children to informal education that includes, among others, discipline, domestic work, respect for others, descent dressing, and others that will help them grow responsibly,” Dr. Khanakwa advised.

Additionally, Dr. Khanakwa encouraged the youth to set future goals and to heed the guidance of parents, teachers, and church leaders.

She highlighted the importance of taking advantage of government programs such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, which are designed to alleviate poverty among Ugandans.

“I advise you all young people to look out for the different government programs and take advantage of the existing opportunities such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and others meant to get Ugandans and young people out of poverty,” Khanakwa advised.

Beyond her advocacy for youth development, Dr. Khanakwa has been actively involved in improving healthcare in Namisindwa.

She has organized several free integrated medical camps across the district, providing essential services like eye care, general medicine, TB screening, hepatitis B vaccination, and malaria treatment. These initiatives, supported by organizations like the Ministry of Health and the Uganda Red Cross Society, aim to address the significant healthcare challenges in the region.

Dr. Khanakwa’s campaign for the Woman MP seat is driven by her desire to leverage her extensive experience in development work and resource mobilization to bring strategic leadership and development to Namisindwa.

Her background includes over 15 years of experience in development work, holding leadership roles in resource mobilization for the National HIV Response at the Uganda AIDS Commission, and being a lecturer at the Uganda Management Institute.
