Two Ugandans, 4 Other People Jailed For Shooting Dead, Robbing Kenyan Over Ugx5billion

By Frank Kamuntu

Six individuals, including two Ugandans, have been sentenced to 15 years in prison for robbery with violence by the Bungoma Law Courts Principal Magistrate Tom Orlando.

According to a statement seen by our correspondent, the Office of The Director Of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said that the six robbed Michael Gacheche of more than KSh 2 million (about Ugx5billion) outside Keringet Hotel in Bungoma town on June 8, 2020.

The six individuals were identified as Milton Makuma, John Wakwale, Brian Ochieng, Dennis Andoli, Emmanuel Watiti, and Patrick Omia, along with one accomplice who remains at large.

The men allegedly attacked the late Gacheche, fatally shot him in his car, and fled with his money on a motorcycle that they had on standby.

“Initially, all seven suspects were arrested, but two escaped while in police custody at Bungoma Police station; however, Dennis Andoli was rearrested while attempting to cross the Kenya – Uganda border with John Wanyonyi Wamalwa still at large to date,” the statement read in part.

After hearing testimonies from 18 prosecution witnesses, the court found all six suspects guilty and sentenced them to 15 years in prison.

Elsewhere, four police officers, including one involved in the apprehension of 19-year-old motorist Ian Njoroge, who assaulted a traffic officer, were detained.

The officer who was among those who arrested Njoroge on Sunday, June 2, was arrested alongside six individuals, including three fellow officers, for alleged involvement in robbery with violence.

The officer and his colleagues were accused of stealing KSh 2.2 million from a locked vehicle parked at a school in Utawala.

The incident was reported at the Mihang’o police station by the school accountant.

Investigations by Mihang’o officers directed them to the Kasarani police station, where they found the Subaru vehicle.

Inside, they discovered two suspects and four policemen.
