Kenya: A mother of three is fighting for her life in Naivasha Sub-County hospital after she was physically assaulted by her husband using a hot metal rod.
Rose Wanja said her husband came home drunk and started a confrontation over money issues before attacking her using the metal rod.
The 38-year-old was rescued after her niece reported the abuse to the police after two days of being locked up at the house.
Wanja suffered injuries on her face, and legs and had her pelvis fractured.
A manhunt has been launched for the culprit.
Wanja said her marriage has been plagued by physical abuse with the latest incident including a threat to her life.
She said her husband has served a jail term for three years at the Naivasha GK prison after he hit her two-month-old baby with a metal rod nine years ago in a similar assault incident.
According to Benjamin Mwaura, the deputy chief nurse at the facility, Wanja was referred to the facility with serious bruises on her face, legs, neck and had her pelvis fractured.
Mwaura said although her condition has stabilized, she still was unable to walk due to the broken pelvis and a fracture she is recovering from.
The medic said the facility continued to record several cases of gender-based violence cases, noting that early this year the hospital also handled another case of violence where a woman was severely burnt with hot water by her husband.
According to Naivasha Gender Based Violence Cluster Coordinator John Kinuthia, Wanja had suffered great pain from the abuse for years until the recent near-death experience.
