Another One! Plane With 10 Passengers On Board Veers Off Runway, Crashes In Nearby Farm

By Frank Kamuntu

An aircraft with 11 passengers on board veered off the runway at Lichota Airstrip in Migori Town in Kenya on Monday, September 16.

Z. Boskovic Air Charter confirmed that all 10 passengers and one crew member onboard the aircraft, registered as 5Y-ZBW, escaped without any serious injury.

“The aircraft was carrying 10 passengers and one crew member at the time of the incident. We are relieved to confirm that there are fatalities or injuries reported,” the management confirmed.

In an exclusive interview Moses Ywera, a resident who witnessed the incident unfold, reported that the plane struggled during takeoff.

He observed the aircraft on the runway, which veered off at the end and began billowing smoke as it attempted to take off.

He described how the plane lost direction and emitted loud screeching sounds from the wheels before stalling at the end of the runway.

Ywera added that residents tried to assist, but their efforts were hindered as airstrip officials intervened.

“I was in my compound next to the airstrip when I saw the plane trying to take off. We stopped to help when the smoke cleared and saw that everyone had exited safely, though they appeared shaken,” he noted.

The incident occurred around 12.30pm.

Meanwhile, the company is cooperating with authorities to investigate the incident. A fire engine and an ambulance from the Migori county government are currently on-site.

In other news, four people including students taking flying lessons perished after their plane crashed.

The student, her aviation technology teacher, her mother, and another person were the only occupants of the ill-fated aircraft.

The police stated that they were not aware of the accident until the family registered complaints after their kin failed to return home.
