President Yoweri Museveni has fired KCCA, top officials, following the IGG report on the Kiteezi landfill disaster. The IGG’s report clearly outlined the severe oversight and negligence.

The President has dismissed the following KCCA officials:

The President invoked his powers under Article 172 (1)(a) of the 1995 Constitution to take action in the public interest. In addition to the dismissals, Museveni has instructed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to further investigate the matter, focusing on the criminal negligence associated with the disaster.

To maintain continuity, the Public Service Commission has been directed to advertise the vacant positions, with new appointments expected within three months. In the interim, the Minister for Kampala has been tasked with recommending temporary appointments to ensure KCCA operations are not disrupted.

The statement reiterated the President’s commitment to upholding accountability and maintaining high governance standards for the benefit of the public.
