Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the UN General Assembly drew more attention for the empty seats than for his words.

According to figures released by Israel on Saturday, 77 national delegations either skipped the session or walked out as he began speaking, YNET reported.

The 41-minute speech was delivered to a visibly thinned audience, with Israel’s immediate neighbours — Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria — among those absent. Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Iran also declined to attend, underlining the depth of regional and diplomatic rifts surrounding Netanyahu’s government.

The boycott underscored mounting frustration with Israel’s actions in Gaza, which has endured more than two years of relentless conflict. Over 65,000 Palestinians have been killed, and the enclave of more than two million people has been left in ruins, facing what observers call a humanitarian catastrophe.

Officials clarified that not all no-shows were political boycotts: some delegations simply missed the morning session. Jordan and Egypt stayed away but did not join the organized walkout, while Pakistan exited in protest before repositioning themselves at the sidelines to listen, according to Israeli officials.

By contrast, envoys from Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates — both signatories to the 2020 Abraham Accords — remained seated throughout Netanyahu’s remarks, despite friction over Gaza and pressure from hardliners in his coalition to annex parts of the West Bank.

International and Arab media coverage focused heavily on the dramatic optics of the walkout, with many outlets highlighting the empty chamber rather than Netanyahu’s vow to “finish the job” against Hamas.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei amplified the moment online, branding Israel “the most despised and isolated regime.”

77 Nations Absent Or Walked Out

In total, delegations from 77 countries stayed away or left as Netanyahu took the floor. They included:

  • Middle East & North Africa: Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, UAE (present but stayed), Palestine, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Mauritania, Djibouti, Somalia, Comoros, Morocco (unclear).
  • Africa: Angola, Senegal, South Africa, Mozambique, Uganda, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Chad, Niger, DRC, Central African Republic, Eritrea, Madagascar, Equatorial Guinea.
  • Asia-Pacific: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, North Korea, Tuvalu, Tonga.
  • Europe & Americas: Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, San Marino, North Macedonia, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Guyana, Panama, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Dominica, Suriname, Bahamas.

Israel’s own assessment stressed that the protest reflected growing diplomatic isolation, even as Netanyahu sought to rally support by doubling down on Israel’s military objectives.
