At least 28 people have died, and 19 others were seriously injured after a bus swerved off the road and plunged into a river in southern Ethiopia, local authorities have confirmed.
The tragic accident took place in the Wolaita region, about 400 kilometres (250 miles) south of the capital, Addis Ababa.
According to local officials, the bus, which veered down a steep slope, was severely damaged, with its roof ripped off due to the impact of the crash.
Rescue and search operations are ongoing, as authorities have yet to determine the exact number of passengers on board at the time of the incident.
Images shared on social media show the bus submerged in the river with extensive damage to its structure. The cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed.
Authorities have stated that efforts are continuing to retrieve more victims from the scene. Further details are expected as the rescue operation progresses.
