In a major boost for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) stalwart and Kwania District Chairperson, Alex Ogwal, has openly declared his support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the forthcoming elections.

Ogwal, speaking at President Museveni’s campaign rally in Kwania on Friday, praised the government’s service delivery in the district and pledged to mobilize massive support for the NRM across Lango sub-region.

“Kwania is calm, Your Excellency. I thank you for the service you have given us. Because of the good work you’ve done for the country and the people of Kwania specifically, I offer my support to you this time,” Ogwal said.

The longtime UPC leader underscored the role of elders in shaping society, saying they must organize and guide communities before retiring honorably. “Elders are not to be thrown away. They must organize the house, assemble the boys, and then retire with dignity,” he emphasized.

Ogwal appealed to the President to prioritize infrastructure development in Kwania, especially critical road projects cutting through swamps along Lake Kwania. He also requested Museveni to commission the district administration block, whose foundation stone was laid in the President’s name.

“Now that I’ve offered myself to support you fully, kindly help me in your next term… at any of your free time, go and officially commission the administration block,” Ogwal appealed.

His declaration marks a significant political shift in a region historically known as a UPC stronghold, signaling cracks in opposition support bases ahead of 2026.

Ogwal ended his speech with a firm pledge: “I reaffirm my full support for President Museveni and will deliver Kwania and beyond for the NRM.”
