Bombo Tanker Explosion: Death Toll Rises To 15, Several Still In Intensive Care

By Jamil Kato

Following the tragic accident yesterday in Kigogwa Town along the Kampala-Bombo road, the death toll has sadly risen to 15. According to the Kampala Police spokesman, 11 fatalities were recorded at the scene, and four more victims succumbed to their injuries today.

The spokesman also confirmed that 24 individuals were injured in the incident. Out of these, 15 remain in intensive care, while nine are recovering in a regular ward at Kirundu Hospital. Police are currently conducting DNA tests to identify the deceased, and the bodies will be released to the families once the process is complete.

The truck driver involved in the accident is still at large, and investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

Police reported that four buildings housing nine shops were destroyed in the blaze, along with other properties worth millions of shillings.

The incident comes barely a week after more than 150 people were burnt to death in Nigeria in a similar fuel siphoning incident from an overturned tanker.
