President Joe Biden welcomed President-elect Donald Trump to the White House on November 13, 2024, marking Trump’s return to the Oval Office for the first time since January 2021. This significant meeting was aimed at ensuring a peaceful and cooperative transfer of power, with both leaders pledging a smooth transition process.
The meeting, described as “substantive” and “gracious” by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre, covered important national security, foreign policy, and domestic issues. Biden reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a seamless handover, emphasizing support and open communication for the incoming leadership.
Trump expressed gratitude for the cooperative gesture, highlighting the challenges of political life but recognizing the significance of the peaceful transition. “It is a nice world today,” Trump remarked, appreciating Biden’s efforts for an effective handover.
First lady Jill Biden greeted Trump upon arrival and handed him a congratulatory letter for Melania Trump. Melania, who did not accompany her husband, conveyed her support through a statement wishing him success.
This meeting restored the tradition of a peaceful transfer, which Trump bypassed in 2020 when he did not invite Biden to the White House and skipped his inauguration. The conversation served as a symbol of American democratic norms and the importance of prioritizing the well-being of the nation.
