A boat accident near Ggaba Beach on Lake Victoria on Sunday night has sparked a rescue operation by the Marine Police after a music band’s boat capsized.
The accident occurred around 9 pm when the boat, carrying band members returning from a performance at Divine Resort & Spa, collided with an oncoming boat near Ggaba.
According to Uganda Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, while most passengers managed to make it to safety, one band member remains missing as of Monday morning. The nearby Ggaba Beach community quickly responded to the scene, hearing cries for help, which led to the rescue of all but one individual.
The Marine Police are continuing their search for the missing person and are working to identify the individual. Authorities are urging the public to exercise heightened caution while travelling on water, especially with the ongoing rainy season, which has caused unpredictable weather and flooding conditions.
