Dr. Khanakwa Sarah Namisindwa, a Woman MP Aspirant for Namisindwa District, has taken a proactive step towards economic empowerment by equipping over 500 women and men with practical skills in making body jelly and laundry bar soap. The training, which targets selected sub-counties in Namisindwa District, aims to foster self-reliance and create sustainable income opportunities for participants.
While addressing trainees at Butemulani Parish in Bumwoni Sub-county, Dr. Khanakwa emphasized the importance of equipping women and girls with the skills to remain economically active, both at home and in schools. “We decided to train them on how to make washing bar soap so that they can maintain proper hygiene and also generate income for their households,” she said.
The initiative is particularly significant in Namisindwa, a district where many women are underrepresented in formal economic activities. By focusing on practical, income-generating skills, Dr. Khanakwa is not only empowering women but also addressing broader issues of hygiene and household economic resilience.
Participants expressed their gratitude for the training, noting that the skills acquired would be instrumental in improving their livelihoods. Many trainees vowed to put their new knowledge to use by starting small businesses or enhancing their household economic activities.
Dr. Khanakwa’s effort underscores the transformative power of community-driven initiatives, particularly in regions where economic opportunities are limited. By focusing on hands-on, practical skills, she is fostering a culture of self-reliance and empowering residents to take charge of their financial futures.
