HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has announced that he is taking “forced leave” after testing positive for COVID-19. This has attracted his bazukulu’s attention who are using their social platforms to push prayers for him for quick recovery.
Museveni said on Twitter that he was experiencing “mild symptoms” as he goes into isolation.
While two of three samples collected from him earlier in the week tested negative, one returned a positive result, he said in a statement Thursday.
“I have, therefore, got the second forced leave in the last 53 years, ever since 1971, when we started fighting Idi Amin,” he said, citing the dictator who ruled Uganda in the 1970s.
Museveni said he delegated his duties to Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
This simply means that Museveni won’t be able to attend this year’s Heroes’ Day celebrations to be held tomorrow, June 9, at Kasaala Catholic parish grounds in Butuntumula Sub County, Luweero District.
In 1981, a few months after the NRA rebel leader, Museveni launched a war against Milton Obote’s government. It is alleged that about 15 people were brutally killed on this day, including the NRA rebels and their collaborators.
According to Minister for Presidency, Ms Milly Babalanda, this year’s commemoration will be marked under the theme: ‘Arise Uganda; our heroes’ sacrifices are now bearing fruit’ and 51 medals will be awarded to people who supported Museveni during his rebel days.
